2007 Fools Classic Report

Twelve individuals of CBBC were not foolish enough to just roll over and continue sleeping on April 1st with rain falling above their heads. Instead they rose, laid out all their cycling clothes and tried to figure out what to wear for a tough metric century on a forty degree rainy day. I arrived at the meeting spot not knowing if I would see more than Brian and I there and was pleasantly surprised that we would have comrades on this journey!

The route had enough climbing to sap all the energy from the legs along with 13 dirt/gravel roads. Incidents were few but largely mine as I started early with a slow speed fall as a chain snapped on one of the many climbs. I stayed upright until I started drifting backwards and could not unclip the feet! Later in the ride someone pointed out that my front tire was flat, while I was riding along just thinking we were riding in mud. Oh wait, we were on paved road at the time. Being delirious at the time I replaced the tube but pinched it upon installation I rode another 100 yards before blowing that replacement!

One rider had only planned to ride the start and another rode off ahead never to be seen again. The ten finishers are to be commended for finishing the toughest metric around. Cold temperatures, wet weather, gravel, mud and constant up or down roads made this a ride to remember! Thanks to the following for joining us: Bob Miller, Jay Rothberg, Kurt Schrammel, John Coyle, Michael Wuerger, Harry Tosko, David Johnson, Bob Scharle, and Brian Ignatin.

Also special thanks to Julie Ruddy and Kathy Zucconi for feeding and encouraging us half way through this adventure.
